Zipp`s ZR1 front wheel hub for gravel and road bikes

For the next stage of development of the hubs for Zipp's professionally proven Firecrest wheels, they turned to the engineers in the German development office in Schweinfurt. The result is the ZR1 hub sets for disc and rim brake wheels.

This hubset features an improved seal design and faster response thanks to the 66 engagement points of the freewheel body. Zipp's engineers spent more than two years developing the ZR1. The proof of the hub set's durability included more than 58,500km of test rides, which were part of 3,222 hours of testing. They contain central technologies of the Zipp Cognition hubs. The seal design is based on the Cognition, with a larger dust cap behind the driver body and better seals for more protection. The bearing size is also the same as the Cognition, albeit the Cognition uses premium bearings. The six pawls are offset to work in two groups of three pawls. At any given time, three pawls are always engaged. This design creates a fast engagement feel with 66 engagement points.

The freehub body is designed to keep the pawls in place for disassembly for ease of maintenance. Zipp hubs are designed to use J-Bend spokes, the most popular type of spokes today. J-Bend, widely used & easier to replace.
